Process
Here’s how a Noom Med subscription works:
- Signup Form: The first step is to complete a detailed intake form, which requires basic information, weight/height numbers, and any medical information (for example, a health condition). This form may take up to 15 minutes to complete. It will also help decide whether you qualify for the Noom Med program, available only to individuals with a BMI of 30 or higher, or those with 27 or higher paired with a weight condition.
- Lab Work: Based on your answers to the questions, Noom may suggest lab tests to learn more about your body and any health conditions which need to be considered to create a personalized care plan. The Noom subscription fee doesn’t include the labs, so you’ll have to arrange for those yourself if necessary. That being said, you may be able to use recent tests you already have.
- One-on-One Consultation with Clinician: Once your lab work is ready, Noom will connect you with a board-certified clinician for a one-on-one online consultation (typically via a video call). During this call, the clinician will confirm and review the findings from your test results and discuss the information you have provided.
- Personalized Care Plan: Based on the consultation, the clinician will create a customized care plan for you that may include weight loss prescription injection medication. The medications prescribed are typically Zepbound, Saxenda, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Contrave, Metformin, Bupropion/Naltrexone and Topiramate. GLP-1 medications include Ozempic, Victoza, Trulicity, Rybelsus, and Bydureon. The clinician will work with you to decide which medication works best for your circumstances and will inform you about any potential risks and side effects. The medication plan will accompany the Noom Weight subscription, which provides tools, guides, tracking, and coaching for better eating habits.
- Working with Insurance: If medication is prescribed, the Noom Care Team will help you navigate insurance, prescription fulfillment, and refills.
- Progress Tracking: As you start taking the injections and using the program on the Noom app, your personal clinician will connect with you periodically to monitor your progress.
Treatment Effectiveness
98% of doctors recommend pairing Noom with GLP-1 treatments, based on a January 2024 survey of actively practicing physicians who have used Noom and express familiarity with GLP-1 medications.
Its unique psychological approach to enhancing eating behaviors has helped many individuals opt for healthy, nutrient-dense foods, and track how much they consume.
Additional Features
Besides medication for weight loss, the Noom Med program offers the following features with its app:
- Daily Lessons: You’ll get daily lessons to read and listen to that provide helpful information on nutrition, weight loss, and overall health.
- Color-Coded Foods: It offers an easy-to-understand color-coded categorization of food based on calorie density and nutritional benefits so users can make informed, healthy grocery shopping choices.
- Coaching: The app also has nutrition and fitness coaches with whom you can interact virtually to ask questions and receive guidance. You can chat with your coach in the app.
- Community Support (Noom Circles): You can also connect with members of the Noom community to discuss your experience and get moral support from others on the same journey.
- Food and Exercise Logging: The Noom app makes it easy to log everything you consume during the day and any physical activity so that you can keep track of the calories you consume and burn. Similarly, you can also log your water intake.
Ease of use
The Noom Med program is delivered mainly via the Noom app. Both the Noom website, where you begin the signup process, and the Noom app, have a user-friendly interface.
All the features are available on the home screen and the menu. Navigating to and from the home screen is quite easy.
Logging in food is quick and easy, as the app readily suggests the food. You can select the food, adjust the quantity/serving, and log it. Daily and long-term progress is also easy to track with an intuitive reporting interface.
Post-treatment Support
You may continue using the Noom app even after finishing medical treatment for weight loss. As Noom emphasizes lifestyle changes for the long term, it encourages continuous tracking of your food intake and physical activity. Doing so may help you sustain your weight loss once you’ve come off the medication.
Your assigned clinician can guide you on how long to monitor your diet.
There aren’t any support options for users who have finished the subscription. So, if you want to continue receiving support from the clinician or coaches on the app, you’ll need to stay subscribed to the service.
Thank you!
